Maths Week 8: Where do you think is your Turangawaewae?

Where do you think is your Turangawaewae?

For this week we were focusing on data and graphs. My main idea/question was "Where do you think is your Turangawaewae?". I asked multiple people in my hub for these results, the most common place was Christchurch, following by Other, third was Canada, and lastly a Other place in New zealand.

Using google sheets to make my graph and collected my data so I finally got my final answer. I used a stacked column chart to show my learning, I picked this graph because you can easily see the final results.
Where is your Turangawaewae?

If you're looking for a place to go while you're visiting luxurious Christchurch, the  Botanic Gardens is at the top  of my recommendation list. Christchurch is known for its stunning gardens, so prepare to be mesmerised. Located in the central city, this garden has a range of sections to explore.

Rose gardens, water gardens, daffodil gardens and so much more including rivers and shops on the way. When taking your children to this wonderland there is a kids pool and an amazing playground (both still entertains me).  Hungry? Why not stop at the Ilex Cafe for expectational food and a gift shop to grab souvenirs to show off to family and friends. Have an artistic taste? Many fountains and sculptures are scattered around this elegant park.

Throughout the seasons different plants bloom, and some new animals come to play in the gardens. If you’re lucky, you might see a group of ducklings waddling around following their mother. Are you interested in tropical plants? Well they even have a room for that! Inside there is one plant unusual compared to all the others. Blooms every 7 to 12 years, amorphophallus titanum. Usually when plants bloom their fragrance is stunning, while the amorphophallus titanum smells like rotting meatloaf and rotten eggs combined. This plant recently bloomed early 2020,bringing large crowds to the gardens. Interested in Cacti? There is even a room full of different types for you!

So you get out of your boredom! Visit the Botanic Gardens! For a fun, sensational and worthy trip!

Whare Ako Maori / Reading project

My Reading project
This week we had to make/invent a structure to add to Christchurch. I have decided to make a Maori learning centre called Whare Ako Maori based to teach young children about Maori traditions and what they did so they get a head start.
What could I add to the google drawing and/or my project?

Olivia's Rescue Mission Onawe Pa!

Rescue Mission Onawe Pa

For this week, we were learning about coordinates. We are pretending that Onawe  Pa is under attack and Kaiapoi pa is trying to help. We had to measure on a map what would be the fastest route  to get there, Straight down, By waka or  by road route. Is there anything I'm missing?

The fastest route was straight down:

   56.1 km

The second fastest was the road route:

83 km

And last but not least the waka route:

 113 km

What are the coordinates of the Pa's?

Kaiapoi Pa= 74,05

Onawe Pa= 94,53

Compass Directions:

Otautahi to Onawe Pa: South East

Otautahi to Kaiapoi Pa: North North East

Week 6 Maths

My Pa
Perimeter: 134 m
Area: 1188 m2

For maths we had to design a pa. We had to make the pa to scale by doing the area and a perimeter. The image above was made via google drawing.

Inside my Pa is some huts to stay in, a vege garden and a Marae. Surrounded by a moat and a bridge to cross to their home.

I used google drawings for the picture above, mostly using the shapes coming with the website.  Katrina helped with the grass and with the pebbles welcoming you into the Pa.

Is there anything that I could inprove on?

Since I was sick, I only had to do the maths and the Maori tasks this week.
