Revise, Rework, Repeat!

 Kia Ora everyone!

For the past couple of weeks, everyone in Kaupeka has been writing a Newspaper article about the crime that Goldilocks had committed. We had to include many different features in the text such as: Data, Interviews and even a interesting headline. This week we had to improve our first introduction paragraph. For my create I decided to add my 5 w's (what, when, who, why, where) to make the writing more interesting. Here is my create! Click here to see the original one! Is there anything I could improve on?

Kiwi Kids News review

 Hey everybody!

Reading this week was easy and entertaining! It was fun to read about different writing Genres and how different each one is. I read Four Genres: National, World, Odd stuff and sport. If you would like a look at where I got these articles Click here!

Here is what I thought of them!

National:

I loved reading this article since I have a interest in skiing myself and this could be useful for Kiwis all across the South Island.

I enjoyed the metaphors used in the text and loved the sentence:“Last week Canterbury’s Mt Hutt has opened its slopes for the season, after a new sprinkling of snow dusted the mountains.”

World:

Learning about this was pretty peculiar. The fact that China picks how much children to have is strange, but cool to learn about!

It was strange to see what life is like form across the world and the rules their country lives by!

Odd stuff:

This video was about a man who was confident enough to go swimming in Antarctica and the Arctic! It was so interesting while he talks about the risks about swimming in small tunnels between ice!

This man really cares about the environment and desperately wants to save these landscapes from climate change. He even holds a world record!

Sport:

The Olympics have always interested me and always have wanted to watch them in person. Sadly this year it seems like spectators are banned!

Many interesting facts are in this article and I overall was really focused on  this text!

The struggles of waking up...

 Hello everyone!

This weak for reading we had to write about something we do everyday. We got inspired by an amazing story Ms Newbould had wrote about Matariki! We had a limit of 100 words to write it and I chose waking up. I really enjoyed my piece of writing and was happy with my final product. Here it is:

Like a war zone, my body was battling to get out of my toasty blankets, surrounding me like a cocoon. Decisions went round and round in my head not knowing which one to choose. A bizarre sound occurred, “BEEP, BEEP, BEEP”. The urge to hit it off the side table was growing by every''BEEP”.  The scent of bacon and eggs had made it to my room, swirling around, luring me to creep out to the kitchen. I could see rays of sunlight peeking through my blinds as footsteps crept up the hallway. Oh no… Mum has arrived.

Is there anything I can work on?

How much maths knowledge can you take?

 Kia Ora!

This week our teachers were trying out something called "Maths knowledge". There are 4 goals that you can possibly do! I chose to do Know groupings of 10’s, 100’s & 1000's in 7 digit numbers and wrote down the answers in my book. Here are my questions-since every ones questions are different, and my working out: If I got one wrong please tell me!

How fun would this be?

 Hola!

This week for maths we were focusing on perimeter, area and volume of shapes. To know the perimeter of a shape, you add all the length of the sides together. For area you times the length by width, and for volume and all three numbers together. The task this week was pretty fun! We had to design a game for the Top team challenge (a day when you just do enjoyable activities). I designed game using water balloons and a hat (bucket drilled to a rectangle piece of wood with handles down the bottom so it can balance).  The team would be split into two sides one will be throwing and one will be catching. From a distance of each other, the throwing team will try throw three water balloons into the hat on the other side, if they get three in its a point. I used google drawing to display my learning. Click here to see it better and more clearly!

Would you like to play this game? Answer in the comments!

What if characters were alive?

 Konnichiwa!

This week for reading we were making a "Character Reading Web". You had to choose a book you are reading/read and write a little information about the characters you've selected. I chose the book Ickabog by JK Rowling, and have loved reading it so far. I decided to use google drawings to display my learning, and enjoyed writing a little blurb about the characters! The only struggles really were writing some information about some characters (Since I haven't read it all yet). While reading through my project, I would love for some feedback form everyone! If it's a bit to blurry Click here to see the original one!
